Visual Memory Test (TORD)

Visual memory

ASA — Academic Skills and Attention 10–15 min School counsellor

Visual Memory Test (TORD) assesses visual memory. Visual material is presented and then recalled after a delay. Processing what is seen and remembering what was seen are different abilities, and this instrument targets the second.

What it makes visible

  • Separates visual processing from visual memory, a distinction classroom observation rarely makes.
  • Relevant where a student follows a demonstration but cannot reproduce it later.
  • Short, and easily paired with a processing instrument in the same session.

Scope and limits

This is a screening and assessment instrument; it does not make a clinical diagnosis. The exact scope of use must be verified against the relevant instrument form, its norm group and the conditions of administration.

Focus of the area

Assessing, in a structured way, how a student sustains attention, processes visual information, builds patterns and solves problems.

Scenarios that include this instrument

01 — Getting to know the student

Assessing a student's developmental areas in general terms.

02 — Academic support

Identifying support needs in attention and cognitive processes.

Frequently asked questions

That pattern points to memory rather than processing, and it changes the support plan: the student needs retrieval support, not more explanation.

Scope note

This structure is designed to support assessment, screening and guidance processes — not to make a clinical diagnosis. The aim is not to diagnose but to know the student more accurately, follow their development and identify the support they need in time.
