Odd One Out (TI-IIB)

Visual analysis and discrimination

ASA — Academic Skills and Attention 10–15 min School counsellor

Odd One Out (TI-IIB) assesses visual analysis and discrimination. Among a set of figures, one does not belong. Finding it requires breaking each figure into its features and comparing them - a different operation from completing a pattern.

What it makes visible

  • Measures visual analysis rather than pattern construction.
  • Sensitive to hasty responding: a student who answers before scanning the whole set shows a characteristic error profile.
  • Short enough to sit alongside a longer instrument in the same session.

Scope and limits

This is a screening and assessment instrument; it does not make a clinical diagnosis. The exact scope of use must be verified against the relevant instrument form, its norm group and the conditions of administration.

02 — Academic support

Identifying support needs in attention and cognitive processes.

Frequently asked questions

It usually points to responding before the full set has been scanned. That is an attention finding as much as a reasoning one, and it is worth checking against the attention instruments.

Scope note

This structure is designed to support assessment, screening and guidance processes — not to make a clinical diagnosis. The aim is not to diagnose but to know the student more accurately, follow their development and identify the support they need in time.
