2x2 Figural Analogy (TI-I) assesses figural reasoning. The student is shown a pair of figures that stand in some relation to each other, then asked to complete a second pair by the same relation. What is measured is not knowledge but the ability to notice a rule and apply it again.

What it makes visible

  • Separates rule-finding from rule-applying: some students see the relation but cannot carry it across.
  • Requires no reading, so it works with students whose language skills lag behind their reasoning.
  • Read together with 3x3 Completion, it shows whether difficulty is with the relation itself or with holding several relations at once.

Scope and limits

This is a screening and assessment instrument; it does not make a clinical diagnosis. The exact scope of use must be verified against the relevant instrument form, its norm group and the conditions of administration.
